We took in a private tour of our trainer Henry Dwyer’s beachside training facility at St Leonards on the Bellarine Peninsula. Byerley members and guests watched horses take a gallop up the 1400m natural sand track, met property manager Nick Roe, Henry’s lecturer at Marcus Oldman College, and a vet by trade who spoke of the benefits to the horses offered by the property, we head some of the funny stories that come with training horses in the country, including the turkeys next door that love to occasionally pay the horses a visit! We then headed to St Leonards beach to watch a few of Henry’s horses peacefully wade through the water. After a cup of tea and muffin at the cabin house we came away with an appreciation of why horses do so well at St Leonards, such a tranquil environment.
