About Us
In January 2017, Managing Director Kate Sadler (pictured left), brought together 12 initial Founding Members to establish the Byerley Racing Club. The Club’s vision is to establish the first members owned racing stable in Australia. Operating as a not for profit organisation the Club owns and races horses for its members.
In January 2019, Joan Sadler (pictured right) became Byerley Racing Club’s Member Liaison Manager. Together Kate and Joan share the responsibilities for the day to day management of the club and are passionate about providing Byerley Members with an enriched racehorse ownership experience.
Why the name “Byerley”?
All thoroughbred horses descend from three founding stallions, Godolphin, Darley and the Byerley Turk.
Godolphin and Darley are names now synonymous with the most prestigious racing stables in the world.
As the first of the three founding stallions, the name “Byerley” captures the Club’s vision of becoming the first members’ owned horse racing stable.

Kate Sadler

Kate’s racing association stems from childhood, with her family heavily involved in the industry. Kate is passionate about connecting people with horses through racing and, having successfully managed large racing syndicates, is committed to offering Byerley Members an enriched and exciting racehorse ownership experience.
Dr Andrew Nichols
Director/Chair
Dr Andrew Nichols is a Neurosurgery Registrar in Melbourne. Andy’s passion for racing has only grown since expanding his racing interest to racehorse ownership. When not in surgery Andy is sure to be studying a form guide. With his intellect and wealth of racing knowledge, Andy is a great asset as Chair of the Club’s Board of Directors.
BEN QUIN
Director/Treasurer
Ben has over 15 years experience as a Certified Practicing Accountant and is a partner of Quin and Bourke Accounting Firm. Ben’s high quality technical knowledge of finance and accounting, along with his diverse experience as a strategic small business advisor, ensures Byerley Racing Club’s finances are prudently managed.
NICK CARTLEDGE
Director/Marketing
Nick is well placed as our new Marketing Director to guide our Club to attract fantastic new members having worked for Ballarat Turf Club as their Sales and Marketing Executive and in running his own property business. Nick is excited about the Club’s prospective growth and development.
