Purchase of Horses
Byerley Racing Club purchases horses with the aim of providing consistent racing enjoyment for members throughout the year.
FRANKIE DIVINE (FRANKIE)
Written Tycoon x Divine Chills 5YO Gelding
Career: 9: 0-0-0
Frankie Divine is particularly special being the first foal of Divine Chills, the multiple city winning mare, who inspired the creation of the Byerley Racing Club. Frankie had been in the Club’s line of sight since his birth, so it was extremely satisfying to secure him at the Melbourne Inglis Yearling Sale in March 2021 for Byerley Members to race. Since this time Frankie has been on quite the journey, from surviving a life threatening virus as a 2 year old, to showing early promise at his first two race starts as a three year old, to progressing through two different stables after a string of below par performances. The Club, not having given up on Frankie, transferred him to Kirsten Mooney in Oakbank, South Australia in June 2024. Kirsten has since built a strong bond with Frankie and he couldn’t be happier with his new country lifestyle. With him jumping out of his skin, we’re confident this campaign of seeing what Frankie can do.
CHILLI TYCOON (Chilli)
Written Tycoon x Divine Chills 4YO Mare
Career: 8: 0-1-0
Chilli Tycoon is the second foal of Divine Chills, who the Club purchased at the Melbourne Inglis Premier Sales in March 2022. Full sister to Frankie Divine, she is a beautiful strong, clean winded mare. Chilli at her first start showed promise, however a series of unsuitable tracks, wide draws and physical immaturity meant that Chilli’s form sheet looked poor. Her trainer Henry Dwyer pulled up stumps with her in mid 2024. We understood Henry’s decision and gave Chilli a good spell with Caroline Price at Advika Park. Chilli then undertook 5 weeks of dressage training with Caroline to help build her physical strength. Chilli then transferred to the racing stables of Cliff Brown at Mornington in October 2024, and had her first trial for Cliff on the 4th of December 2024, which she won. Chilli is looking a picture of health and we look forward to celebrating her success in 2025.
HERE COMES RUBY (Ruby)
Grunt x Barrett’s Mark 3YO Filly
Career: Unraced
Here Comes Ruby was purchased by Byerley Member Joan Sadler at the Inglis Gold Sales in May 2023, and the Club quickly got involved. Ruby is the half sister to George The Giant who the Club raced with success and retired in 2023. Despite looking nothing like her brother, what they do share is their good size both being over 16hh. Trainer Matt Laurie has been taking Ruby through her education process slowly, knowing there was no rush as he believed from the beginning she would be a late three year old, early four year old runner. Ruby has had a few jump outs over a short distance for education which she handled well. She has shown to be intelligent and very willing and Matt is happy with her progress. It will be exciting to see what she might show when she commences racing, likely mid 2025. In the meantime, we are enjoying watching this beautiful natured filly develop into a strong, well educated race horse.
